Capture and Preserve Your Memories
T-Shirt quilts should be as unique as their owner, so every quilt is designed specifically for you. T-Shirt quilts make excellent gifts for graduates, or anyone who has a stack of shirts they cannot bring themselves to throw away. In Stitches can turn those memories into a usable piece of art, constructed to last and display those special moments in time.
We are often asked how many shirts are needed for a quilt, but it all depends on the shirts and how you want to use them in the quilt. In most cases, a minimum of 15-20 shirts is required.
Services and Pricing
Every quilt created by Kari is unique in design, although the process for creating the quilt is generally the same. Kari will start by collecting the freshly laundered T-shirts (or other fabric items) that you wish to use in the quilt. She will measure the graphic(s) and create an initial layout on graph paper. At this point in time, you will be required to give some feedback (this is an important step, as you hold the memories and will have this quilt for years to come).
Once the design is finalized, Kari will apply a fusible interfacing to the knit shirts (to prevent stretching), and construct the quilt top. The final step is to put the quilt together with batting, longarm quilting, and a hand-stitched binding. The overall process generally takes 6-8 weeks (depending on the time in the school year – Kari teaches during the day).
Pricing is based on the finished size of your quilt, and includes all materials. Pricing starting at $8 per square foot. Additional charges for shirts that need repairs or additional prep work to be sewn into the quilt (such as mesh shirts).
